About this event

This seminar will present findings from a range of research activity providing qualitative insights into behaviours and decision making for heat pump installation firms. Using Nesta’s 2024 survey of Heat Pump Installers as a starting point, Olly Zanetti will explore the challenge of transforming the UK’s existing buildings to low carbon heating through the eyes of the firms we expect to deliver the technology solutions for that transformation. This data informs a series of activities and pilots that could show how we can accelerate along that path – including “Start at Home” and the quagmire of effective training and apprenticeship routes. Alice Owen will complement these findings with what is already known from qualitative research with construction firms about how to mainstream low carbon approaches and technologies into renovation, maintenance and improvement construction work, highlighting two themes: individual firm decision making and the reliance on quality and reputation, informed by a survey of members of the Federation of Master Builders ; and the importance of place-based approaches to support innovation.

Participants are expected to adhere to the Events Code of Conduct.
